This is how the story went I met someone by accident who blew me away blew me away And It was in the darkest of my days When you took my sorrow and you took my pain And buried them away, you buried them away
We know there was a hint in the last episode of season 3, and it is likely “Balenciaga” seeing as how that would be completely meaningless and out of place otherwise, especially since Myrtle Snow has some link to the ability to divine the truth of matters. Further more, we know that it will be set in the 1950s and that there is a German speaking character and some “very special skills”.
Prediction: Season 4 will focus around the 1950’s French fashion world, which is ruled by a Balenciaga-esk vampire society which makes clothes fashionable that enable their feeding habits.
Balenciaga is a reference to Cristóbal Balenciaga, a prominent Spanish fashion designer born in 1895 (died in 1972, though it is hard to find how or where he died). He was known to be somewhat of a recluse, only giving one interview and generally being so unavailable that many questioned if he was real or a myth. And the press was forcefully told that photography and sketches of him were strictly forbidden (convenient). He is described as being like an eggshell in appearance, both pale and soft (pretty traditional vampire description). But he is said to have been quite charismatic, with a voice like feathers, which coupled with his impeccable fashion designs, led him to be refereed to as “the master of us all” by other top designers (vampires have long been believed to have sway over people’s minds). He hit his prime in the 50’s and 60’s, which fits the time period.
He revolutionized woman’s wear by boldly re-imagining the womanly shape. And is known for making swoop collared dresses, dresses that left the neck exposed and allowed jewelry to show, popular in the 1950’s (which would be convenient for a vampire).
It is also said that he did not choose models for his clothing but instead chose “monsters”. He chose women that were not the norm at the time, and a woman named Colette was one of the most famous. Colette is said to have started the “Dracula walk”; which flairs the elbows out, shoots the pelvis and hips forward and walks with the head in front of the body.(Mayhaps the “very special skill” Sarah Paulson is working on perfecting.)
Maybe Jessica Lange is learning German so she can play a Van Helsing-esk hunter of things that go bump in the night.
Just my thoughts. Might be wrong. Hopefully is right.
